Anne's Legacy
For a number of patients at the Canberra Hospital, Anne’s legacy has provided comfort and support through the regular donation of hand made quilts.
To date, almost 2000 quilts have been made and distributed to those in need, each tailored to the needs of the patients. In Aged Care, square lap quilts are very popular, whilst bright colours and funky designs are adored in Paediatrics. Each quilt is a unique piece of art, handmade by one of many generous volunteers wanting to make a difference to patient comfort and wellbeing at the Canberra Hospital. Anne’s Legacy also donates quilts to the Organ Donor Unit and the Neonatal Intensive care unit.
In 2006, Anne’s Legacy was founded by three passionate quilters Diane Cutting, Sandra Orszaczky and Lyn Bauer-Williams after losing their dear friend Anne Nelson to cancer.
Knowing the comfort that the quilts brought her on her trips to hospital, Anne always wanted to provide others in need with the same relief. Anne distributed all of her fabrics amongst her friends Diane, Sandra and Lyn so that they could carry on the art.
Since 2006, Anne’s Legacy has grown in more ways than one. What was originally a team of three; a group of dedicated volunteers now donate their time and supplies to the worthwhile cause. Regular workshops are held throughout the year at Rosemont the Patchwork Shop. This has allowed Anne’s Legacy to make larger and more frequent donations of quilts to patients, enabling them to keep up with popular demand.
