Diana Lampe - Mastercook Judge

CAN GIVE DAY 2022 CHS Staff Fundraisers

Giving back to help make the Wellness Centre a reality

Passionate cook and author Diana Lampe has been a cancer patient at Canberra Hospital twice, firstly in 1983-84 when she underwent radiotherapy for Hodgkins Lymphoma, and in 2003-5, when she was gravely ill with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. This time, she spent almost two years undergoing chemotherapy in the lead-up to and after an autologous stem cell transplant.

Defying the odds, Diana recovered over time and went on to enjoy an entirely new career as a food columnist in the Canberra Times, where her popular Vegetarian Kitchen column ran in the Food & Wine section from 2006 until she retired in 2015.

Diana was already an internationally bestselling embroidery author, having sold more than 100,000 copies of Embroidered Garden Flowers and five titles that followed it.

She continues to visit the Canberra Region Cancer Centre for an annual check-up with her haematologist, Dr Michael Pidcock.

“I was very fortunate to be treated by Dr Pidcock – the treatment I received under his care at Canberra Hospital saved my life.

“Without it, I would have missed the opportunity to meet my five grandchildren, all of whom have been born in the years since.

“I’m very grateful to all the doctors and nurses who cared for me during my treatments.

Diana is excited to participate in this year’s Can Give Day MasterCook Challenge as a judge, and to raise funds to support the Canberra Region Cancer Centre Wellbeing Centre – Your Space.

“I think the Wellness Centre will be wonderful for cancer patients from Canberra and the region. It will be uplifting for them to have somewhere to go in between treatments or when visiting for appointments with their specialists.”
