Q: Can you briefly tell us about Magic Table?
A: The Tovertafel, which means "Magic Table" in English, was developed in the Netherlands. It features a high-quality projector, infrared sensors, a loudspeaker, and a processor that projects interactive games onto a table. There are 40 vibrant games that respond to hand and arm movements, creating a magical effect.
Q: How does it make a difference for patients?
A: The magic table enhances social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and physical activity in patients with cognitive impairment. Social interaction and activities significantly improve patients' moods, reduce boredom and frustration, and help decrease apathy and responsive behaviours. This makes the magic table a valuable tool for providing non-pharmacological behaviour support, which is considered the first line and best practice for behaviour support in patients with cognitive impairment.
Q: How does it make your job easier/better?
A: Supporting patients with cognitive impairment and improving their quality of lives make our job meaningful. The magic table helps staff communicate and interact better with patients who may have difficulty connecting with others due to their cognitive impairment. It also allows staff to have fun, share laughter, and develop rapport with our patients. The tool enables us to ensure quality care and bring joy to our patients.
