Enhancing Care for Newborns with Lifetherm 2000

09 Dec 2024

For many families, the experience of having a newborn in the Special Care Nursery can be a challenging one. For a time in a parent’s life that should be full of joy and excitement, unexpected complications that require special attention can arise. That’s when the terrific team at the Special Care Nursery apply their extra attention and care to babies at the North Canberra Hospital (NCH).

With the assistance of a vital new piece of equipment recently funded through your generous donor support, staff are already seeing the difference it makes for families with a newborn in the Special Care Nursery.

This advanced machine allows staff to keep babies warm and comfortable and provides a much-needed alternative to other specialised neonatal equipment. It ensures it is available for emergencies without disrupting care for other infants. For families and staff, this means less stress and fewer transfers, allowing babies to remain in one place and receive focused, continuous care.

“Its ease of accessibility, convenience and modern technology really elevates the care we provide here. The machine allows for better access to provide essential treatments, like administering CPAP therapy. The benefits of this accessibility extend not only to our staff, who can deliver care more efficiently but also to families, who can stay close to their babies during these treatments.” says Julie Parducci, a Team leader in the Special Care Nursery at NCH.

Their Special Care Nursery team shared how Lifetherm 2000 has brought reassurance to their daily work: “It makes me feel less stressed and grateful knowing that we have this equipment on hand.”

For families and staff alike, the accessibility of Lifetherm 2000 provides invaluable support, especially in moments when every second counts.

At the Canberra Hospital Foundation, your donations will always mean direct impact on health care in Canberra.

We want to thank you wholeheartedly for making the funding for this equipment possible. Your generosity not only enhances our capacity to deliver specialised equipment, but also allows these teams of professionals to focus more fully on the family units in their care, as they guide new parents on the journey to taking their little one home.
