Yes, you can! | University of Canberra Hospital CAN GIVE DAY 2021

04 Nov 2021

CAN GIVE DAY 2021 on Friday 29th October was an amazing day of fundraising across our region, with over $303,000 raised by our generous community, healthcare teams, changemakers and sponsors. This 24 hour 'festival of giving' was a great way to show our gratitude to our healthcare heroes, and help them deliver exceptional patient care, by fundraising for additional equipment and resources that assist exceptional patient care

The University of Canberra Hospital really showed their team spirit by organising some exciting and heartfelt fundraising activities. Let's hear from Todd Kaye, Director of Allied Health, Division of Rehabilitation, Aged and Community Services, University of Canberra Hospital (UCH).

Thank you to Todd for taking Leo Sayer, our Canberra Hospital Foundation Ambassador, Helen Falla, CEO of Canberra Hospital Foundation and Peter Munday, Principal Dealer for Lennock Volkswagen and CGD sponsor, on a tour of the amazing facilities at UCH.

"Hello everyone, Last week we had a bit of fun at the University of Canberra Hospital (UCH) celebrating CAN GIVE DAY 2021 with the Canberra Hospital Foundation (CHF).

The festivities kicked off in true UCH fashion with a 'Festival of Giving' Food Fiesta on Thursday afternoon. A spread of flavoursome treats was kindly provided by the talented cooks and bakers within our teams for the rest of us to indulge in with a few additional calories added on the afternoon.

A small but talented group took part in the mask decorating competition, with the one and only Leo Sayer (CHF Ambassador) lending his eye for talent to the judging. The gongs for best decorated masks went to Emily, Rosalie (PT) and Shirley, one of our lovely patients from Majura.

The race that stops a nation came early to Canberra this year with the inaugural UCH 'CAN GIVE DAY' Rehathlon held in the central courtyard. Conditions were perfect and the track was fast, with blistering times being set from the go. RaH Dream Team and Namajic set the early pace. The Mad Mullets stepped up against Dr Phill’s MDT and tore up the track, looking to be the team to beat.

The Directors set what seemed to be an implausible time, and with protests against potential wheelchair assistance and questionable 4WW technique being upheld, implausible was right! Late entries C.A.P seemed to have it in the bag until the final run, with the AHA Annihilators tearing up the track, a time of 7min 22sec fast enough to take the title.

Best dressed racers went to Minced Mash Diet with their costumed representation of the UCH wards. An honourable mention goes to Mel’s Maestros for their efforts. Had Mal Meninga been judging, they would have been a shoe in!

A massive thanks to everyone who supported the day and came out and had a bit of fun with us all. Team UCH alone raised around $1500 (awesome effort) and I understand the Foundation is well on its way to beating last years fundraising total.

Thanks also to Michelle, Mel and Grant for all their enthusiasm and assistance in organising the day and the CHF team for their generosity and assistance. Planning is already commencing for next year’s festivities, I hope you will be able to join us.

Thanks, Todd."
