This tribute page has been created in loving memory of Dr Mali Maliyasena, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March 2025.

Mali meant so much to so many — as a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, teacher and mentor. He was kind, compassionate and generous, and his life touched countless people.

Following his diagnosis, Mali was cared for by the Medical Oncology Service at The Canberra Hospital. Our family is deeply grateful to Dr Ankit Jain and the dedicated nursing staff of the Canberra Region Cancer Centre for their exceptional skill, compassionate care and unwavering support throughout his illness. Their care brought comfort and dignity to Mali and our family during an incredibly difficult time.

In honour of Mali’s life, and in lieu of flowers, we invite you to consider making a donation to the Canberra Hospital Foundation. Funds raised will directly support the Department of Medical Oncology, helping to advance research into pancreatic cancer, improve treatment options and outcomes, and ensure patients continue to receive the same compassionate care that Mali experienced.

We hope that through research and innovation, other families may benefit from better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for this devastating illness.
