Canberrans can make a real difference for sick kids with just $5 this June.
Mix106.3, Her Canberra and the Canberra Hospital Foundation are excited to announce the start of Give Me Five 2022, an annual charity campaign raising money to help families and children undergoing treatment at Canberra Hospital.
Give Me Five has raised over $1,000,000 since 2014 and in 2022 expectations are high that the campaign will lead to a major contribution to the Canberra Hospital Foundation so it can purchase equipment for the kids in Canberra Hospital.
With a target to raise over $100,000 by the end of June, Canberra can support Give Me Five by donating to Give Me Five in its return year after COVID-19 prevented the usual activity in 2020 and 2021.
Money raised will go towards the purchase of important therapeutic tools for outpatient clinics, including Smileyscopes to help young ones who may be apprehensive about treatments and baby monitors for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and other equipment to support children in hospital.
Give Me Five 2022 was launched today in the playground at Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.
Present were General Manager of Mix 106.3 Craig Wagstaff, Kristen Davidson and Nigel Johnson from the Mix 106.3 Breakfast Show, CEO of the Canberra Hospital Foundation Helen Falla and Susan Freiberg, the Executive Director of Women, Youth and Children at Canberra Health Services (CHS).
Ms Freiberg said the fundraising efforts of the Give Me Five campaign had made a real difference for children being treated in CHS facilities over the years.
“The Canberra Hospital Foundation provides those nice to have extras that can have such a positive impact for children in hospital, including comfort items like toys or activities, specialised equipment, refurbishments to help make away-from-bed spaces less clinical and therapeutic programs.
“Donations go far beyond directly supporting sick children in hospital.
“The benefits are felt by their family, the healthcare team and the community.”
CEO of the Canberra Hospital Foundation, Helen Falla said, “All of us at Canberra Hospital Foundation are so excited about Give Me Five and the fun that goes along with this wonderful campaign to support our youngest patients in hospital.”
The Canberra community can get behind Give Me Five by supporting events this month which include Mix 106.3’s Give Me Five Grand Prix on July 1 along with a number of other community based fundraising events and through collection buckets located around the region.
Canberran’s can donate directly to Give Me Five here and can see what events are taking place through June here.
